UB Women's Soccer Signs Five for Next FallBulls add depth for second season in MACBUFFALO, NY - The UB women's soccer team signed five players for the 1999 season head coach Jean-A. Tassy announced this week. All five players signed national letters of intent to play for the Bulls as the team enters its second season in the Mid-American Conference. Two of the five players are from the state of New York. Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY) is a midfielder who could see time at both midfield and striker for the Bulls. "Elizabeth has a great work rate and is strong and physical on the ball," said UB head coach Jean-A. Tassy. "We see her helping us in the midfield and possibly at the striker position." The other New Yorker is Emily Cox (Fairport, NY), who gives UB a tough player on goal and should battle returner Jaime Adams (Rochester, NY) for the starting goalkeeper spot. "Emily will be able to show her leadership as a goalkeeper," said Tassy. "She organizes the defense and distributes the ball well." The Bulls added a strong scorer as well with the addition of Samantha Swerdloff (Montclair, NJ). "Samantha is a creative, all business goal scorer," said Tassy. "She is committed to going to the goal with a passion and understands what it takes to be a striker." The addition of Swedloff at the forward spot for UB, along with All-New York Region third teamer Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY), who had 13 goals last year, and Heather Collins (Amherst, NY), who had four goals in 1998, gives the Bulls a formidable attack on opposing defenses. UB added even more to their offensive threat with the signing of Andrea Sullivan (Dublin, OH). "Andrea's strength lies in her ability to play with her back to the net," said Tassy. "She goes to the goal at will and we look for her to use this gift for us at the striker position." The last of the five signees for the Bulls is Nicole Pry (Westerville, OH), a versatile player with the ability to play several spots on the field. "What impresses me the most is Nicole's flexibility to play so many positions well," said Tassy. "She is a ball of fire and we look forward to her making an impact right away." The Bulls return 16 players from last year's team that finished 10-6-2 overall and 3-5-2 in their inaugural
season in the Mid-American Conference. UB finished seventh in the MAC and lost in the quarterfinal round of
the conference tournament to eventual champion Northern Illinois.
