Women's Soccer Earns First Academic Honors from NSCAA
A total of 316 intercollegiate soccer programs (65 men, 251 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the award for the 2004-05 school year. Buffalo is the only Big 4 program to win the award this year and one of only four programs in the 12-team Mid-American Conference, along with Ball State, Central Michigan, Miami (OH) and Toledo, to receive the award. The award is the first that the team has won, as the 2004 team featured 19 players who carried a cumulative GPA above 3.0. In the spring, three athletes even carried perfect 4.0 GPAs, including sophomore Heidi Griffiths (Clarence, NY/Clarence), and 2004 seniors Brenna McJury (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and Jennifer Rounds (Vestal, NY/Vestal).
The 2005 team finished 5-11-2 overall and 3-7-1 in MAC action under 11th-year head coach Jean-A. Tassy, led by Academic All-MAC selections seniors Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) (3.71 GPA, led league with 5.67 saves per game) and Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) (led team with eight points after being injured in 11th game of year). |
