Andrea Vescio Named to Academic All-MAC Team UB senior honored by conference for athletic and academic success CLEVELAND, OH –The Mid-American Conference announced its 2008 Women’s Soccer Academic All-MAC team on Tuesday afternoon. For the third consecutive year, University at Buffalo senior Andrea Vescio was named to the 18-member team.
Vescio, a management major with a 3.87 grade point average, started every game for the Bulls this season, tallying four goals and one assist on the year. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native was named to the 2008 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I University Division Women’s Soccer Third Team earlier this season. A four year starter for the Bulls, Vescio won the Coaches Award for two consecutive years in 2006 and 2007. To be nominated for Academic All-MAC honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league’s faculty athletic representatives. The total number of honorees is set for a specific sport or 33 percent of all nominees, whichever is greater.
