Two Bulls Named To Academic All-MAC TeamBUFFALO, NY- The Mid-American Conference announced its 2006 Women’s Soccer Academic All-MAC Team on Friday. A duo of Buffalo players received the honor, as junior Heidi Griffiths (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and sophomore Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, Ontario/A.N. Myer) were both named to the 25-member team.
Griffiths is a Biological Sciences major, carrying a 3.98 GPA. After seeing limited action in 2005 due to injuries, Griffiths led the Bulls in points with 14 on the season. The junior finished the 2006 season ranked second on the team in goals scored with five and second on the team in assists, notching four. This honor was the second post-season honor for Griffiths in 2006, as the junior was also named to the 2006 College Sports Information Director’s of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I University Division Women’s Soccer Second Team.
Vescio, meanwhile, is a Management major, carrying a 3.936 GPA. A UB scholar athlete, Vescio played in all 18 games this season while scoring a team-leading six goals. Vescio was an integral part of the Bulls’ offense, adding an assist and finishing the season with 13 points on the season, second on the team. The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team finished its 2006 campaign with a 8-10 overall record. Sporting a 4-6 Mid-American Conference record, the Bulls narrowly missed qualifying for the league tournament. |
