Vescio Named To Academic All-MAC Team

Junior recognized by Conference for success in the classroom, on the field

CLEVELAND, OH – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2007 Women’s Soccer Academic All-MAC Team on Friday. Buffalo junior Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, ON/A.N. Myer) was named to the 26-member team. This is the second consecutive year that Vescio has earned the honor.

Vescio is a Management major, carrying a 3.99 GPA and was a potent offensive player for the Bulls in 2007. Vescio was also key in Buffalo’s 3-0 win over Kent State on Thursday, Nov. 1, scoring two goals and earning the MAC’s female scholar-athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 4.

In addition, Vesco was named to the 2007 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I University Division Women’s Soccer Second Team earlier this season.

Vescio started every game for the Bulls in 2007 while leading the team in points with 17 after scoring six goals and adding five assists.

To be nominated for Academic All-MAC honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league’s faculty athletic representatives. The total number of honorees is set for a specific sport or 33 percent of all nominees, whichever is greater.
