Devon Russell Named to All-MAC Women's Soccer Team

Junior defender earns second team honors

OXFORD, OH - Devon Russell (Averill Park, NY/Academy of the Holy Names), a defender on the University at Buffalo women's soccer team, has been named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team. The team was announced at the 2002 MAC Women's Soccer Tournament Banquet on Nov. 7 in Oxford, OH. This marks the second straight year the junior team captain has been honored by the conference. Last season, Russell was an All-MAC First Team selection.

Russell was the cornerstone of a solid Bulls' defense in 2002. With two goals on the season and stellar defensive play, she helped lead UB to a 7-8-5 record and a fifth place seeding in the MAC Tournament. The Bulls suffered a heartbreaking, 2-1, double-overtime defeat to Bowling Green on Wednesday to bring an end to their season.

With Russell's selection to the All-MAC team, Head Coach Jean-A. Tassy has now had at least one of his players honored by the Mid-American Conference every year since the Bulls joined the MAC in 1998.
