McCalla Earns Slot on MAC All-Freshman Team
The forward, who scored twice and added an assist for a total of five points, was one of the Bulls' top offensive threats in the clutch. She scored goals in two Buffalo wins, as she scored the second goal in Buffalo's 3-2 win against regionally-ranked Army on Aug. 28 and offered a game-tying goal on Buffalo's lone penalty kick of the season in its come-from-behind 3-2 overtime win against Northern Illinois on Oct. 9. The play-making forward was one of Buffalo's top offensive threats in the open, but injuries shelved her for the final five games. In all, McCalla still appeared in 13 games and started 11 and tied for third on the team with 21 shots. McCalla was part of a Bulls team that included four freshmen who started more than 10 games and also accounted for five goals, as Jenessa Banwell (Toronto, Ontario/Birchmount Park) scored twice and Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, Ontario/A.N. Myer) also scored. Along with senior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois), who was also lost for the final six games of the season due to injury, the duo accounted for 35 percent of Buffalo's goals on the season. Buffalo finished the season 5-11-2 overall and 3-7-1 in the Mid-American Conference
under 11th-year head coach Jean-A. Tassy. |
