Tassy was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year by the MAC office today. In addition, the Bulls had three players named to the All-MAC First Team and another named to the all-conference second team. Coach Tassy is in his sixth season with UB and guided the Bulls to the school's first ever Mid-American Conference regular season title this year, finishing with an 8-2-1 conference record and 14-5-1 overall. UB earned the number one seed in the conference tournament and will host the MAC semifinals and final this weekend. Tassy has increased the team's win total each of the last four years at UB, recording five wins in 1997, 10 wins in 1998, 13 wins last season and a school record-tying 14 wins this year. In three years in the MAC, Tassy has coached six players who have earned first team all-conference honors and three players who earned second team honors. In addition, UB had three players named to the All-MAC First Team. Senior Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) was named to the all-conference first team for the third-straight season after rewriting the UB record books this year. During the season, Listrani became the school's all-time leader in career goals (46), career assists (24) and career points (116). This year, Listrani scored a personal-best 14 goals on the season and a school-record 11 assists on the year for 39 points, another school single-season record. Also named to the All-MAC First Team was senior defender Linnaea DiNallo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), who was named to the first team for the second straight season. DiNallo played most of the season as UB's top defender and has led the team in recording a school-record nine shutouts this season and a team goals against average of 0.92. The other Bulls' player named to the all-conference first team was sophomore Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero North Syracuse), who was a second team all-conference selection last year. This season, Pfeffer has scored four goals and three assists for 11 points and one game-winning goal. Senior defender Cherie Rogers (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) was also honored by being named to the All-MAC second team. Rogers is another key player on the Bulls' defense that limited opponents to just 19 goals in 20 games this year. Rogers recorded one goal on the year and also recorded an assist in the Bulls 1-0 win over Central Michigan. The Bulls will look to continue their postseason honors this weekend at the Mid-American Conference Tournament being played at UB. Buffalo will face Miami on Friday night at 5 pm, with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship game. |
