Bulls Battle Weather For Another WinBall State and Rain Give UB Tough TimeBUFFALO, NY - Despite rainy conditions and a tough showing from Ball State, the UB women's soccer team fought through it and came away with a 2-1 victory to remain unbeaten in the 1999 season. It was a slow start for both teams as the Cardinals packed it in defensively to try and slow down the Bulls attack. Ball State got the best shots early on, but the Bulls responded late in the first half. With less that three minutes to go in the first half, Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) took the ball near midfield and drove by the Cardinal defenders before putting a shot past the BSU keeper for a 1-0 UB lead going into halftime. Ball State came back in the second half as Eileen Weinheimer scored off a free kick at the 59:41 mark to tie the score at 1-1 as the rain started falling. The Bulls began to take control of the ball and kept on the offensive attack against the Cardinals backup goalie, who entered after an injury to starter K.D. Moreland. In the 83rd minute, the Bulls took a loss ball in the goalie box and Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) passed to Listrani who knocked it in for her second goal of the game and the 2-1 Bulls win. Buffalo improves to 11-0-1 on the season and a perfect 5-0-0 in the MAC while Ball State falls to 1-11-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the MAC. UB will host Miami on Sunday at 1 p.m.
