Senior Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) became the first goaltender in the University at Buffalo women's soccer team's history to make 100 saves in back-to-back seasons with her fourth save on Friday night against Kent State as she closed her career with two straight shutouts. Calvert, who led the MAC with 102 saves and a 5.67 saves per match average, also passed Jaime Adams (1997-2000) for second place on the all-time saves list, with the 341st and final save of her career in the first overtime Friday night, as she dove in front of a Kent State forward and deflected a shot away from the goal.
Friday's 0-0 tie with Kent State was the first time UB played in a scoreless match since fighting Miami (OH) to a 0-0 tie in 1998, Buffalo's first year in the MAC.
Senior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois), Buffalo's leading scorer with eight points this season who sat out six games after a career-ending ACL injury, was given the start Friday night. On the first play of the game, sophomore Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean) tapped the ball to Crofut at the center of the field, who kicked the ball out of bounds before being replaced. Crofut became the 27th player in MAC history to reach 50 career points with her goal against Cornell on Sept. 11. She also had at least 10 points in each of her first three seasons, becoming the first player since Paula Listrani (1997-2000) to reach that honor.
Buffalo has not lost a Senior Day game since 1999, when it lost to Kent State, 1-0, in a double overtime game. Since then, the Bulls have posted a 5-0-1 mark. In that stretch, Buffalo beat Miami (OH), 3-1, in 2003, the only time UB has beaten the RedHawks since joining the MAC in 1998, and Ohio, 2-0, in 2004, as Calvert made 13 saves to force the Bobcats to share the league title with Kent State.
Tassy Nears 100th Win at UB Head coach Jean-A. Tassy will begin the 2006 season just two wins shy of reaching his 100th win at UB as he begins his 12th season. Tassy already holds the UB record for wins, having compiled a 98-87-20 record during his 11 years. In 26 years as a collegiate coach, Tassy has a 219-174-34 record.
Buffalo said goodbye to six seniors after Friday's game, as Calvert, Crofut, Arielle Korczykowski (Derby, NY/Lake Shore), Erica Mincher (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa), Pamela Schneck (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) and Lindsay Szafranski (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) all finished their careers.
