Buffalo to Host Toledo in MAC Quarterfinal Action

The Bulls will host the Toledo Rockets in MAC quarterfinal action on Tuesday, October 31, at 4 pm. If UB wins that game, Buffalo would serve as the host for the women's semifinals on Friday, November 3, and the championship game on Sunday, November 5.

Earlier this season, Buffalo defeated Toledo 3-1 back on October 22. Cherie Rogers (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena), Heather Collins (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) and Jennifer Keefe (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) all scored goals for the Bulls and Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) assisted on each of the three goals in the Bulls' win.

Bulls Claim MAC Regular Season Title

The Buffalo women's soccer team became the first UB team to win a MAC regular season title as the Bulls finished the year with an 8-2-1 conference record. UB also clinched the number one seed in the MAC Tournament, and the right to host the tournament as long as they remain alive. UB will host #8 Toledo on Tuesday, October 31 in a quarterfinal match. If UB wins that game, the Bulls will host the semifinals and finals on November 3-5.

UB Defeats St. Bonaventure 2-0

In UB's last regular season game, the Bulls defeated local rival St. Bonaventure 2-0. Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) recorded her fourth shutout of the season as the team recorded its eighth of the year. Paula Listrani started the scoring for UB as she netted her 13th goal of the year on an assist from Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). The second UB goal came from Kelly Damon (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East) who recorded her first career collegiate goal off an assist from Theresa Potenza (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East), who recorded her first career assist.

Bulls Defense Registers Eight Shutouts

The Bulls defense has been the main ingredient in the team's success this season. Buffalo has recored eight shutouts as a team, the latest a 2-0 win at St. Bonaventure. Goalkeepers Jaime Adams (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) and Emily Cox have each recorded four shutouts on the year, and both have had the help of the usual supporting cast in the back. Both Heather Collins and Linnaea DiNallo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) have seen time at the sweeper position lately. Cherie Rogers and Erin McGarry (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) have both played in the back as well and both have started in every game this year, and Megan Hosey (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) has played tough on the defensive side as well.

Bulls Reach Double Digit Wins for Third-Straight Year

For the third consecutive season, the UB women's soccer team has reached double digits in wins. The Bulls are currently 13-5-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the MAC. In 1998, UB finished 10-6-2 and last season finished at 13-5-1, for a combined 36-16-4 record over the past three seasons. The school record for wins in a season is 14, set back in 1986. The Bulls have a postseason contest with Toledo on Tuesday, and with a win will have a chance to host the MAC semifinals and finals as well as a chance to break the single-season win mark.

UB Scoring Comes From Every Direction

The Bulls have spread out the scoring this season as Buffalo has scored 43 goals on the year, 42 by UB players and one own goal. Those 42 goals have been scored by 14 different players. Paula Listrani leads the way with 13 goals. Emily Russell (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) and Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) have five goals each and Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) has four goals on the year. Two UB players have three goals each, one player has two and seven players have each scored once this season. In addition, 12 different players have recorded assists this year. Listrani leads the team with 12 and Olszewski has seven assists.
