Calvert Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

Bulls' goalkeeper posted two shutouts last week

CLEVELAND, OH - Buffalo women's soccer goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week on October 29, 2002.

Calvert recorded a pair of shutouts over the weekend to help vault the Bulls from 11th place to fifth place in the conference, ensuring them a spot in the upcoming MAC Tournament. The redshirt freshman made a career-high eight saves to help blank Kent State, 3-0, on Friday. She followed that with another 3-0 shutout of Ohio on Sunday. Calvert needed to make four saves against the Bobcats to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

A psychology major, Calvert has a 3.76 grade point average. She has been playing very well down the season's final stretch and has been a key reason why the Bulls have qualified for the MAC playoffs. Over the last seven games, she is 4-2-1 with three shutouts and a 0.83 goals against average.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
