Bulls Upended By RedHawks, 2-1

Amy Coron finishes match with seven saves; Martina Pettenuzzo scores first career goal

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team dropped a close match to Miami University on Sunday, falling to the RedHawks 2-1. The Bulls and the RedHawks played nearly 75 minutes of scoreless soccer, but Miami’s duo of second half goals in the last 20 minutes of regulation proved to be too much ground for UB to make up.

Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) was excellent between the pipes for Buffalo, as the junior finished the game with seven saves, highlighted by stops in both the 65th and 69th minutes in which she prevented the Miami offense from scoring in one-on-one situations.

Freshman Martina Pettenuzzo (Arlington Heights, IL/Prospect) sparked the Bulls’ comeback, as the freshman scored the first goal of her career in the 86th minute on a header, deflected off the body of Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, ON/A.N. Myer). The assist was Vescio’s team-leading fifth assist of the season.

The RedHawks were lead by Jackie Hardek, who scored both of Miami’s goals, the first coming at the 74:54 mark on a header off a cross from Sara Lund. Hardek notched her second goal in the 80th minute. Lund and Rachel Byron were credited with the assist.

Buffalo will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 1 for its last regular season home game. The Bulls are slated to take on Kent State at 6:00 pm inside UB Stadium.
