Bulls Fall to Akron

Under steady rain and cool temperatures the University at Buffalo women’s soccer team dropped their match to Akron, 2-0, Friday night at UB Stadium. The first half was scoreless for both teams with Buffalo having the edge in shots 5-3. The Zips came out quick in the second half, scoring their first goal of the game just three minutes in. UB goalkeeper Amy Coron saved the initial shot from Akron’s Katie Wise, but Wise was able to grab her own rebound and send it to the back of the Buffalo net. The Bulls tried to find the equalizer but were unable to get past a solid Akron defense. Lindsey Bailey and defender Jennifer Mihok each had shots in the second half. Akron scored an insurance goal at the 66:36 mark to seal the 2-0 win. UB Coron made six saves in net.

Bulls Bounced by Bobcats on Senior Day

On Sunday, the Bulls fell to Ohio, 2-1. Before the game, the team honored its eight seniors, including Jocelyn Cibinskas, Coron, Caitlin Higgins, Sara Hilliard, Jessica Keaton, Jenifer Kern, Melissa Klein and Mihok. Freshman Stephanie Velez scored the only Buffalo goal at the 27:12 mark to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead. Velez’s sixth goal of the season came when Shannon Fisher fed a pass along the right side to Aubrey Stahl who perfectly placed the ball in front of the net where Velez booted it past the Ohio keeper. The lead didn’t last long as the Bobcats sent the tying goal past Coron at the 35:11 mark to send the teams into halftime tied 1-1. Early in the second half, the Bobcats capitalized on a UB foul, scoring a quick goal off a free kick a minute into the half to take the lead, and eventually win the game.
