Going into the final game of her career, senior Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) is just four saves away from becoming the first goalkeeper in school history to make 100 saves in back-to-back seasons. Earlier this season, Calvert became just the third goalkeeper in MAC history to reach 300 career saves. With her final save Sunday, Calvert took third place at UB in career saves, passing Rachelle Galipeau (1991-94) with her 335th career stop. Calvert is just five saves away from tying Jaime Adams (1997-2000) for second place. During her four years as a starter, Calvert has joined the top 10 in multiple UB lists, including career wins (27, second), career goals against average (1.49, fifth), single-season saves (121, 2004, sixth) and single-season wins (nine, 2003, third; seven, 2004, 10th).
Green With Envy Sunday's win gave Buffalo its fifth straight win over Ohio, with three of the wins coming on UB's home turf. It is Buffalo's longest active winning streak against a MAC opponent, last losing to Ohio 2-1 on Sept. 22, 2000 at RAC Field. In Buffalo's five-game winning streak, the Bulls have held Ohio scoreless while scoring eight times. Calvert accounted for the past four shutouts against the Bobcats, who will miss the MAC playoffs for the first time in program history this year.
Sophomore Kelley Vander Mallie (Penfield, NY/Penfield), a transfer from the University of Pittsburgh, scored her first collegiate goal in her 21st career game and 14th at UB, as she dented the twine in the third minute against Ohio. Vander Mallie assisted on her first career goal in Buffalo's 2-1 win against Canisius on Sept. 9.
Seniors' Farewell Buffalo wraps up its season with Senior Day on Friday as it hosts Kent State at 6:00 pm. The Bulls will honor six seniors, each who have played a significant role in making three MAC playoff appearances in the past five years, led by fifth-year seniors Calvert, Arielle Korczykowski (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) and Lindsay Szafranski (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East). Korczykowski and Szafranski are each two-year starters. The Bulls will also honor
Natalia Crofut (East Aurora,
NY/Iroquois), Erica Mincher (Waterford,
NY/Shenendehowa) and Pamela Schneck
(Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East), all who have started for at least
three seasons and helped the team to MAC playoff appearances twice. |
