UB scores five second half goals to upend Canisius

BUFFALO, NY - A big second half outburst propelled the University at Buffalo to a 5-0 victory over Canisius in women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon at Canisius' Demske Complex in the regular season finale for both teams.

UB opened the scoring at the 63:04 mark of the match as Andrea Sullivan (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) scored on a crossing pass from Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels) from 10 yards out to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead.

Later the Bulls erupted for four goals in a span of eight minutes to seal the win. Brenna McJury (Brockport, NY/Brockport) gave UB a 2-0 advantage at the 78:12 mark tipping in a shot from Emily Russell (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names). Just 29 seconds later, Russell scored an unassisted goal from 20 yards away for a 3-0 edge.

UB increased the lead to 4-0 on a goal at 83:13 by Dannecker and finished the scoring at the 86:32 mark when Emily Russell knocked in a pass from Lauren West (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna).

Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Jessica Dunn (Webster, NY/Webster) combined for the shutout. Cox made four saves in the contest before Dunn came in to play the final 3:28.

UB improves to 9-8 overall on the season while Canisius falls to 3-12-1. The Mid-American Conference Soccer Championships open November 6 with quarterfinal play at campus sites.
