UB also clinched the number one seed in the MAC Tournament, and the right to host the tournament as long as they remain alive. UB will host #8 seed Toledo on Tuesday, October 31 in a quarterfinal match. If UB wins that game, the Bulls will host the semifinals and finals on November 3-5.
UB Defeats Toledo 3-1 The Bulls defeated Toledo 3-1 on Senior Day, and did so thanks in large part to the seniors. Senior Cherie Rogers (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) scored the first UB goal on an assist from senior Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena). Another senior, Heather Collins (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) scored the second UB goal coming off a free kick. Buffalo Ties Bowling Green Buffalo ended in a 1-1 tie with Bowling Green this past weekend, the first tie for UB this year. The tie assured UB one point in the MAC standings (3 points awarded for a win) and gave Buffalo the edge it needed to claim the MAC regular season title. Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) provided the only goal for UB, coming in the 83rd minute to send the game to overtime. Goalie Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) made a tremendous save on a shot in the overtime period to help preserve the tie.
Bulls Defense Registers Seven Shutouts The Bulls defense has been the main ingredient in the team's success this season. Buffalo has recored seven shutouts as a team, the latest a 2-0 win at Ball State. Goalkeeper Jaime Adams (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) has recorded four shutouts and Emily Cox has recorded three, and both have had the help of the usual supporting cast in the back. Both Heather Collins and Linnaea DiNallo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) have seen time at the sweeper position lately. Cherie Rogers and Erin McGarry (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) have both played in the back as well and both have started in every game this year, and Megan Hosey (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) has played tough on the defensive side as well.
Bulls Reach Double Digit Wins for Third-Straight Year For the third consecutive season, the UB women's soccer team has reached double digits in wins. The Bulls are currently 12-5-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the MAC. In 1998, UB finished 10-6-2 and last season finished at 13-5-1, for a combined 35-16-4 record over the past three seasons. The school record for wins in a season is 14, set back in 1986. The Bulls still have one regular season game remaining in addition to postseason games.
UB Scoring Comes From Every Direction The Bulls have spread out the scoring this season as Buffalo has scored 41 goals on the year, 40 by UB players and one own goal. Those 40 goals have been scored by 13 different players. Paula Listrani leads the way with 12 goals, and Emily Russell (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) and Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) have five goals each and Elizabeth Pfeffer has four goals on the year.
