Bulls Bounced By Bobcats, 3-1ATHENS, OH- The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team stumbled in its second-to-last Mid American Conference contest on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Ohio University Bobcats 3-1. The Bulls, still on the cusp of qualifying for the 2006 MAC Tournament, fall to 4-5-0 in the league and 8-9-0 overall. The Bobcats improved their record to 6-3-1 in the MAC and 8-8-1 overall.
Freshman Amy Lower dubbed a duo of goals and junior Lindsey Price added a goal and an assist to power the Ohio offense. Lower first struck at the 22:53 mark when she scored unassisted after beating a Buffalo defender on the right side and sending a shot to the far post past Bulls’ goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/ Victor). Lower sank her second goal of the game in the 27th minute, scoring off of a pass from Price to create an early two-goal deficit for Buffalo.
UB finally got on the board in the 70th minute when Heidi Griffiths (Clarence, NY/ Clarence) headed a pass from junior Katie Fage (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) past Ohio goalkeeper Dominique Wright. The Bobcats answered, however, lengthening their lead to 3-1 when Price collected a loose ball and fired it over Coron with 2:57 remaining in the game. Sarah Merritt inked the assist on Price’s goal. The Bulls were outshot by Ohio 18-7 but managed to own the advantage in corner kicks over the Bobcats, 5-1. Coron finished the contest with seven saves while Wright ended the afternoon with three. Buffalo will wrap up regular season MAC action on Thursday, October 26 with an important game against Kent State in Kent, OH. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
