BUFFALO, NY - Christine Vacha was outnumbered on her breakaway, but she still managed to sneak down the right sideline and fire a laser from 20 yards out that flew over the goalkeeper and crashed into the right side of the goal, giving Akron a 1-0 win at Buffalo in Mid-American Conference action Friday night at UB Stadium.

Vacha's goal, five minutes into the second overtime, helped Akron (4-10-2 overall, 2-5-1 MAC) to its third straight game without a loss, as it beat Miami, 1-0, on Oct. 14 and tied Ball State, 2-2, on Sunday.

Buffalo (4-11-1 overall, 2-7 MAC) fell for the third straight game, despite taking the same number of shots, nine, as Akron, and drawing nine fouls to Akron's seven.

The Bulls crowded the goal box on several occasions, but couldn't get a clear shot across on Akron keeper Krystin Wilson, who earned her fourth save of the year while making four saves. Freshman Nikki Wilson (El Paso, TX/Franklin) had one of the best opportunities for Buffalo to score, as she dribbled down the left side of the field and fired from 15 yards in the first overtime, but the Akron keeper was able to scoop up the save.

The Zips also had two quality chances before closing the game in the 105th minute, as Abby Holzworth took a shot in the 41st minute that senior goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) made a diving stop on. In the 68th minute, Calvert was called for a foul when she picked up the ball outside the goal box, but on the resulting direct kick from Holzworth, Calvert made the save.

Calvert stopped four shots. She is just seven saves shy of becoming the first goalkeeper in school history to make 100 saves in back-to-back seasons.

Buffalo will look to snap its three-game skid Sunday when it hosts Ohio at 1:00 pm.
