Women’s Soccer Upended By Eastern MichiganYPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team was downed on the road Friday night, falling to the Eastern Michigan Eagles 7-1 in Ypsilanti.
Sophomore Caitlin Higgins (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) scored the Bulls’ only goal, while freshman Martina Pettenuzzo (Arlington Heights, IL) picked up her first career assist and her first career point for Buffalo. Higgins got UB on the scoreboard first, finding the back of the net on a header off the foot of Pettenuzzo just under five minutes into the game. The goal was Higgins’ second of the season.
The Eagles struck back, however, as EMU tallied a trio of goals to take a 3-1 advantage into the half. Ashley Rodrigues inked the first half hat trick, scoring in the 7th, the 10th and the 29th minutes. EMU then scored four more unanswered goals in the second half, to take the 7-1 win. UB goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) finished the match with five saves. The Bulls return to action on Sunday, as Buffalo is set to take on Central Michigan at 1:00 pm in Mount Pleasant, MI. |
