Weekly Release 10/18/99

Current record - 13-1-1 (7-1-0 Mid-American Conference)

Bulls Back To Winning Ways

The UB women's soccer team rebounded from their first loss of the year to take two road wins in conference play. The Bulls beat Marshall 2-1 in overtime and then defeated defending regular season champ Ohio 2-1, improving to 7-1 in MAC play.

UB Chasing Records

UB's two wins this past weekend improved their record to 13-1-1. The 13 wins are the second best total in school history, trailing only the 14 wins recorded back in 1986. The Bulls 12 straight unbeaten games to start the season set the school record for most consecutive games without a loss.

Department of Defense

One of the keys to the Bulls success this year is the defense. The team has recorded eight shutouts this year, the third highest total for any UB team. The Bulls had 10 shutouts in the 1988 season, nine in 1986 and eight in 1987. This season, the defense has allowed the UB opponents to take just 182 shots compared to the Bulls 244 shots.

Junior Linnaea DiNallo (Clifton Park, NY) is the Bulls vocal leader on defense at sweeper. Two seniors who have helped build the Bulls strong defense are Lauren Hartmayer (Clarence Center, NY) and Melissa Korosec (Endicott, NY). Junior Cherie Rogers (Rchester, NY) has helped in marking top scorers from opposing teams and freshman Soraya Sadeghi (Endwell, NY) has stepped into a starting role on defense as well. Goalkeeper Jaime Adams (Rochester, NY) has recorded 72 saves and has a goals against average of 0.59.

Record Scorers

The Bulls scoring trio of Paula Listrani, Elizabeth Pfeffer and Samantha Swerdloff are putting themselves among the best in UB history.

Listrani and Pfeffer have become the most lethal scoring tandem in UB history. Listrani (12) and Pfeffer (10) have a combined 22 goals, more than any other pair in UB history. They are also just the second pair to reach 10 or more goals in the same season.

Swerdloff has recorded eight goals on the year, giving this trio a combined 30 goals on the season. The only other trio to score more was back in 1987 when Nora Bender (17), Michel Major (9) and Roma Marracino (8) combined for 34 goals.

Record Scorers - Part 2

The Bulls offensive triple-threat combination is also on the verge of becoming one of UB's best in terms of point production. Paula Listrani (34), Elizabeth Pfeffer (22) and Samantha Swerdloff (20) have all eclipsed the 20-point mark in the same season, just the third time in school history that has happened.

Their combined total of 76 points is just three points behind the best ever scoring trio in UB history that recorded 79 points amongst three players back in 1986.

Pfeffer Provides the Offense

Elizabeth Pfeffer provided the scoring punch for the Bulls this past weekend. Pfeffer scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Marshall, including the overtime game winner.

At Ohio, Pfeffer scored a goal shortly before the half to tie the game and added the game winner in the second half, recording all four goals for the Bulls and helped the team record two victories.

UB Hits the Road

The Bulls will hit the road again this weekend to finish off the road portion of their schedule. UB will play at Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan this weekend before closing out the season at home against Kent on Oct. 30.

Assault on the Records

Junior Paula Listrani is moving up the UB record books. With her 12 goals this year, she now has 31 career goals, putting her in fifth place. She has also recorded 75 points in her career, placing her fourth in career points.

Another junior, goalkeeper Jaime Adams, is making her mark in the record books as well. Adams is ranked third in career saves with 280 and moved into the top spot in career wins with 26.

MAC Standings

The Bulls are currently tied for the MAC lead with Central Michigan at 7-1-0. UB has the best overall record at 13-1-1 and CMU is 12-3-1.
