BUFFALO, NY - After coming out of the gates in the first half without a goal, the University at Buffalo women's soccer team exploded with three goals in the second half to hand Cornell a 3-0 shutout loss Wednesday night. The offensive melee matches a season-high at home, and marks the most goals scored upon the Big Red in the second half of a game this season.

Junior Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean), with a renewed sense of focus, broke the scoreless tie in the 54th minute with a loft over the Cornell goalkeeper. After receiving the ball on the wing from sophomore Brooke McCalla (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton), Turner drove toward the net and found the sweet spot in the top left corner of the net.

The Bulls would revisit the net shortly there after, with sophomore Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, Ontario/A.N. Myer) battling through a pesky Cornell defense to hammer home her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Vescio took the pass from in the middle of the pitch from Ashley Turner and sophomore Heidi Griffiths (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and managed to shield the ball away from the nearby defenders. Taking one dribble, the Niagara Falls, Ontario native inserted the ball in the upper left corner for the game's second goal.

With the Bulls controlling the corner kick battle, 10-1, they were controlling the offense for the rest of the game. With the defense playing up, UB attacked many times, out-shooting their Ivy League adversary 11-6 in the second half. Brooke McCalla continued to be a force up front after assisting on the game's first goal by deaking her defender, therefore drawing the Big Red keeper out of the net. McCalla buried any chance of a Big Red comeback with a shot to the bottom of the back post.

Sophomore Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) earned her third career shutout by brushing away four shots. Her seven wins this season are tied for tenth all-time in UB history for wins in a single season. Cornell was led by Kathleen Bubrick, who managed two shots on goal.

The Bulls finish up their regular season on the road with a three-game road trip against conference opponents, starting with a trip to Akron on Friday. The match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
