Bulls Fall to Huskies, 1-0BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo women’s soccer team lost a hard fought match against Northern Illinois tonight in the home confines of UB stadium. The game started out well for the home team as the Bulls generated five shots in the first half, compared to one for the Huskies. The home teams best chance came when senior Brooke McCallajumped on the ball at the top of the box and sent a shot to the far post that seemed destined to settle into the net. The ball hooked wide, sending both teams into the locker room with a scoreless first half.
The second half started off with the same intensity, as Lindsey Bailey took a pass on the right side of the field and found herself in behind the Huskies defense. The teams leading scorer aimed and fired to the far post, but found her finishing touch deflected away by the Huskies goalkeeper in the one-on-one opportunity. In the 77th minute, the Huskies got on the board, as a ball was slotted in behind the right side of the UB defense, crossed into the middle of the field and neatly tucked away. UB put on a big push during the last 13 minutes of play with their best chance coming in the last 30 seconds. Jennifer Mihok sent a pass to freshman forward Deanna Rowe. Rowe took a touch to the left side and sent it to the net. Only a fine save from the Huskies goalkeeper kept the Bulls from their 7th overtime game of the season.
The Bulls will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Western Michigan. The match, scheduled for 1:00 pm at UB Stadium, will serve as the final regular season home contest for the UB senior class.
