Bad Weather Brings Unexpected Road Trip

The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team faltered Sunday in its Mid-American Conference game against Bowling Green by a count of 2-0. The match was originally scheduled to be played at UB Stadium on Sunday, but due to inclement weather conditions in the Buffalo area, the game was relocated to a neutral site at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. The Bulls’ game scheduled for Friday versus Toledo was cancelled and will not be made up.

Playing For Percentage

Because of the poor weather conditions present in the greater Buffalo area over the weekend that forced the cancellation of Friday’s contest between UB and Toledo, the top eight teams attending the Mid-American Conference Tournament will be based on winning percentage, rather than win-loss record. With three MAC games remaining in the season, the Bulls currently own the eighth and final spot with a .429 winning percentage and a 3-4 record. Ball State presently leads the league with a 5-2-1 record, good for a .688 winning percentage.

McCalla Masterful In MAC

Bulls sophomore Brooke McCalla (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) is currently in the top two in the MAC in a duo of impressive statistical categories. Despite having played one fewer game this season than most league foes, the sophomore is in a five-way tie for first place in total assists this season, with five. Additionally, McCalla owns second place in the league for assists per game on the season.

The Bulls will play their final home game of the regular season this Wednesday, October 18 at 7:00 pm at UB Stadium against non-league opponent Cornell. Prior to the commencement of the contest, UB will honor its two seniors, Jessica Roesch (Centennial, CO/Grandview) and Lindsay Guarino (Derby, NY/Lake Shore Central). Cornell is 2-9-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the Ivy League this season, having recently snapped a nine-game losing streak, defeating Yale 3-1 on Sunday.

Buffalo will then play two MAC games on the road, first at Akron on Friday, October 20 at 7:30 pm followed by a game at Ohio University on Sunday, October 22 at 1:00 pm. The Zips currently sit one spot below the Bulls in MAC standings with a 3-5-0 league record, while the Bobcats hold down sixth place in the league with a 4-3-1 record.
