BUFFALO, NY Kristy Coppes scored in the fourth minute to lift Bowling Green State University to a 1-0 Mid-American Conference triumph over the University at Buffalo's women's soccer team at RAC Field on a blustery Sunday afternoon.

The loss puts Buffalo's chances of making the MAC playoffs in limbo, as Buffalo (4-11-1 overall, 3-6-1 MAC) will have to earn at least four points (a win and a tie) in its final two league games to have a chance at qualifying.

In the fourth minute, Leah Eggleton sent a ball ahead to Coppes in front of the defense. With the Bulls rapidly closing in, Coppes lifted a soft, high shot from 25 yards out on the right side and the ball floated just over senior goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) to give Bowling Green a 1-0 lead. Coppes' goal was her 13th of the season, setting a Bowling Green school-record. She also took a game-high nine shots.

With wind gusts up to 37 miles per hour, Bowling Green (5-10-1 overall, 3-5-1 MAC) was able to dominate most of the first half playing with the wind. While taking 18 shots in the first half and forcing Calvert to stop 10 shots, the Falcons allowed just four shots.

Buffalo did have two quality chances to put the ball in the net. In the 15th minute, senior Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy) got the ball with only Bowling Green goalkeeper Ali Shingler between her and the net. Her shot blasted off Shingler's chest and bounced back where junior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) rebounded it and took a shot that hit Shingler's hands before it was cleared.

In the 89th minute, Shingler came out of the net to contain a driving Dannecker. Dannecker's shot cleared a diving Shingler, but also sailed just over the top of the crossbar.

Calvert stopped 12 shots in the loss. She is just three saves away from becoming just the 10th player in UB history to make100 saves in a season. Shingler made eight saves for Bowling Green.

The Bulls will take RAC Field for two MAC games this weekend. They host last-place Marshall on Friday night at 7:00 pm before closing their MAC schedule with a 1:00 pm matchup with first-place Ohio on Sunday.
