The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team picked up its first league victory of the season on Sunday, blanking the Bowling Green Falcons, 1-0. In Friday’s game, Buffalo suffered a setback to then-undefeated Toledo, falling to the Rockets 2-1. Leading The Pack In The MAC After collecting 18 saves in the Bulls’ two games over the weekend, junior goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) currently leads the MAC in saves, with 90. Coron is also third in the Conference in saves per game, averaging 6.43 over the team’s first 14 games of the season. In addition, Coron grabbed her second shutout of the season on Sunday, as the Bulls blanked Bowling Green, 1-0. Vescio Vicious Up Front
Junior Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, ON/A.N. Myer) scored the eventual game-winning goal for UB in Sunday’s win, finding the back of the net in the first half to give the Bulls the lead. Vescio’s goal was her fourth of the season, placing the junior attack first in points on the team with 12. Vescio has also dished out four assists in 2007. All-Star From The Lone-Star Junior defender Nikki Wilson (El Paso, TX/Franklin) scored her first goal of the season on Friday, a second half laser from 35-yards out to bring the Bulls to within one of the Rockets. Wilson has been a mainstay on the Bulls’ defense, not only this season, but throughout her career, playing in every game (50) since stepping foot in Buffalo and starting in 45 of those 50 games.
Buffalo will hit the road again this weekend, traveling to Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan for more exciting MAC action. The Bulls are scheduled to take on Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti on Friday at 3:00 pm before continuing onto Central Michigan for a 1:00 pm Sunday contest. The Eagles are 2-2-2 in the MAC, ending last weekend with a duo of ties (0-0 vs. Akron and 1-1 vs. Ohio). Central Michigan, meanwhile is 2-4-0 in the Conference, most recently falling to Ohio, 2-0 while defeating Akron 3-1. |
