Dannecker Nets Three as Bulls Rocket to 5-2 MAC Win
BUFFALO, NY Senior forward Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy) scored three goals as the University at Buffalo women's soccer team picked up a huge Mid-American Conference win against the University of Toledo on Friday night at RAC Field. The win snapped a six-game winless streak for the Bulls (4-10-1 overall, 3-5-1 MAC), who lost five of six games on a three-week road trip leading into Friday's game. It was the first hat trick by a Bulls player since Emily Russell accomplished the feat in a 3-1 win over Marshall on Oct. 3, 2003, a 3-1 Bulls win. The seven points also rocketed Dannecker to just two points away from tying Anne Quinlivan (1982-85) for 16th place in UB history with 37 career points. Her sixth assist of the year also moved her into a tie for eighth in school history with four other women.
Dannecker opened the scoring in the 17th minute as senior goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) punted a ball past the defense and Dannecker beat the Toledo goalie for the score. Twenty-three minutes later, sophomore Jessica Roesch (Centennial, CO/Grandview) scored her first career goal, as she lofted a shot from 25 yards out on the left side that the Toledo goalkeeper caught in the net. Senior Lindsay Szafranski (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) assisted the goal.
Dannecker added her second tally with 1:34 left in the first half, as freshman defender Courtney MacVie (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) found Dannecker on a beautiful cross to give UB a 3-0 lead. Toledo (6-6-2 overall, 3-4-1 MAC) fought back in the second half, after the ejection of leading scorer Rebecca Hollis for violent misconduct. She had taken six shots in the first half. The comeback was led by Kelly Langenbeck, who scored both goals withing a two minute span, but Dannecker found junior Erica Mincher (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) on a wide-open cross, that Mincher put in the right side of the goal in the 72nd minute to seal the win. Dannecker added her third tally in the 80th minute, as a give from freshman Kathleen Fage (Delmar, NY/Iroquois) could not be corralled by the keeper and Dannecker beat her for an open net goal. Calvert made eight saves as the Rockets took 20 shots and Toledo keeper Jen Whipple stopped seven shots in Buffalo's 21-shot barrage. Buffalo will stay at home for the rest of the season. Its next game is Sunday at 12:00 pm
as Bowling Green comes to RAC Field for a MAC contest. The game will be followed by a men's game
at 2:00 pm. The men face Northern Illinois in another MAC tussle. |
