Miami Defeats Women's Soccer

Bulls Lose 2-1, Fall into Tie for First Place

BUFFALO, NY — The UB women's soccer team entered their game with Miami in first place in the MAC, a full game ahead of the RedHawks and looking to extend the advantage. Miami had other plans however, and defeated the Bulls 2-1, forcing a tie atop the conference standings.

The Bulls got on the board first, as Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) continued her assault on the UB record books. Listrani scored on an assist from Heather Collins (Amherst, NY/Sweet Home) at the 6:33 mark to take an early advantage. UB would hold that lead into halftime, but Miami would come out quickly in the second half.

The RedHawks scored in the first five minutes of the second half on a goal by Danielle Berkemeier at the 49:14 mark to knot the score at 1-1. Miami would strike again in the 56th minute as Andrea Cunningham, the MAC's leading scorer, netted a goal past UB goalie Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) for the go-ahead goal. That score would stand as the RedHawks came away with the 2-1 win.

The goal in the first half by Listrani moved her even further up the UB record books. With her 11th goal of the season, Listrani also notched her 43rd career goal, putting her in a tie for first with Nora Bender for career goals scored in UB history. Listrani already set the school record for career points last weekend, and with her next goal will also take over the top spot in career goals scored.

With the loss, the Bulls fall to 10-5-0 overall and 6-2-0 in the conference. Miami improves to 8-5-0 overall and 6-2 in the conference. UB and Miami are not tied atop the MAC standings at 6-2 with a host of schools close behind. UB will continue their current road trip with a game Sunday at Ball State at 1 pm.
