Bulls Fall to Akron, 2-1

Bulls return home to face Marshall on Sunday

AKRON, OH - The University at Buffalo women's soccer team fell to Akron, 2-1, on Friday night at Akron's Lee Jackson Field. It was the Zips' first Mid-American Conference victory in their two-year history in the league.

Akron wasted little time getting on the board as Abby Holzworth scored just 2:30 into the contest. It was Holzworth's team-leading fifth goal of the year. The eventual gamewinner came at 23:34 by way of Jeannie Stuckey on a breakaway. Stuckey faked Buffalo goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) and booted the ball home. A late offensive push by the Bulls kept things interesting. Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored her team-leading third goal of the season at the 66:06 mark and UB threatened to tie things in the remaining minutes. However, the Zips were able to hold on for the 2-1 victory.

The loss drops the Bulls to 3-6-4 overall and 2-4-1 in the MAC. Akron improves to 4-8-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the conference. Buffalo returns home to host Marshall on Sunday at 1 pm.
