Women's Soccer Weekly ReleaseBulls Unbeaten Streak Ends The UB women's team suffered their first loss of the season to a tough Miami team, losing 2-1 on Oct. 10. The loss is just the first this season for the Bulls, who are now 11-1-1 overall and 5-1 and tied for first place in the Mid-American Conference.
UB Chasing Records UB defeated Ball State 2-1 on Oct. 8, to record their 11th win of the season, the most wins in a season since 1988. The school record for wins in a season is 14 set back in 1986. The Bulls 12 straight unbeaten games to start the season set the school record for most consecutive games without a loss.
Department of Defense One of the keys to the Bulls success this year is the defense. The Bulls are making it hard on opposing teams to put the ball between the pipes. The team has recorded eight shutouts this year, the third highest total for any UB team. The Bulls had 10 shutouts in the 1988 season, nine in 1986 and eight in 1987. This season, the defense has allowed the UB opponents to take just 157 shots compared to the Bulls 221 shots. Junior Linnaea DiNallo (Clifton Park, NY) is the Bulls vocal leader on defense at sweeper. Two seniors who have helped build the Bulls strong defense are Lauren Hartmayer (Clarence Center, NY) and Melissa Korosec (Endicott, NY). Junior Cherie Rogers (Rchester, NY) has helped in marking top scorers from opposing teams and freshman Soraya Sedeghi (Endwell, NY) has stepped into a starting role on defense as well. Goalkeeper Jaime Adams (Rochester, NY) has recorded 67 saves and has a goals against average of 0.50.
Listrani Scoring Streak Halted Junior Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY) has been solid on the offensive end for UB this year. Listrani had an eight-game scoring streak stopped in the Bulls lose to Miami. Listrani had registered at least one point in eight games in a row before being shutout against Miami. She has also recorded a point in ten of the 13 games this season. Listrani leads the team and the MAC in goals (12), assists (8) and points (32). Listrani has been extremly hot in the last two weeks, recording eight goals and three assists in the last six games, helping UB to a 5-1 start and share of the lead in the MAC. Freshmen Phenoms The Bulls have two newcomers near the top of the team in scoring this year. In addition to junior Paula Listrani who leads the team, freshmen Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY) and Samantha Swerdloff (Montclair, NJ) have put their names at the top of the scoring threats for the Bulls. Pfeffer recorded five goals in a two game stretch versus Detroit and Canisius, including a hat trick against Detroit. She has six goals on the season. Swerdloff scored in seven of the first nine games this year and is second on the team with eight goals and 19 points.
UB Hits the Road After four straight home games, the Bulls will hit the road for four straight MAC games over the next two weekends. This upcoming weekend, UB will play at Marshall and at last year's regular season champion Ohio. The following weekend UB will have a tough test, playing at current MAC co-leaders Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan.
Assault on the Records Junior Paula Listrani is moving her way up the UB record books. With her 12 goals this year, she now has 31 career goals, putting her in fifth place. She has also recorded 73 points in her career, placing her fourth in career points. Another junior, goalkeeper Jaime Adams, is making her mark in the record books as well. Adams is ranked third in career saves with 277 and moved into the top spot in career wins with 25.
MAC Standings The Bulls are currently tied for the Mid American Conference lead with a 5-1-0 league record. Central Michigan is also at 5-1-0 and Eastern Michigan is at 4-0-2. UB has the best overall record at 11-1-1 and EMU is 11-1-2. 1999 Results/Schedule
