The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team evened its Mid-American Conference record at 3-3 over the weekend, picking up a duo of conference victories after downing Western Michigan 4-2 on Friday and triumphing Northern Illinois 2-1 on Sunday. Buffalo sophomore Brooke McCalla (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) had a huge afternoon for the Bulls on Friday, notching two goals and adding an assist while freshman Caitlin Higgins (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) and junior Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean) rounded out the goal-scoring contingent for UB. In Sunday’s win over the Huskies, sophomore Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, Ontario/A.N. Myer) and Turner each scored for the Bulls, while Jenessa Banwell (Toronto, Ontario/Birchmount Park) and McCalla each picked up an assist on the afternoon. McCalla Named MAC Player Of The Week
Brooke McCalla was named MAC Player of the Week after playing an integral part in the Bulls’ undefeated weekend. The sophomore tallied six points after recording two goals and two assists on the weekend in the Bulls’ back-to-back victories over Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. McCalla inked two goals and added an assist on Friday and continued her offensive production on Sunday, assisting on what proved to be the game-winner in UB’s 2-1 triumph over Northern Illinois. Sunday’s assist was McCalla’s team- leading fifth of the season. Tassy Tallies 100 Wins
Buffalo head coach Jean-A. Tassy recently reached a career milestone, inking his 100th and 101st career wins as head coach of the Bulls. Tassy reached the century mark in the Bulls’ 4-2 win over the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday afternoon. In his 11th season with UB, Tassy owns a career record of 101-84-19. Additionally, Tassy has coached 11 conference players of the week, including this week’s MAC Player of the Week, Brooke McCalla, 10 first-team all-conference players and five second-team all-conference players. Up Next The Bulls will play their next three games at UB Stadium, beginning with a 7:00 pm game on Friday, October 13 against first-place conference foe Toledo. The match-up verses the Rockets will serve as the second game in a UB doubleheader, as the Buffalo men’s soccer team is set to play Western Michigan at 5:00 pm. On Sunday, October 15, UB will take on Bowling Green at 1:00 pm at UB Stadium. Prior to Sunday’s contest, the Bulls will honor their two seniors, Jessica Roesch (Centennial, CO/Grandview) and Lindsay Guarino (Derby, NY/Lake Shore Central). |
