Bulls Bested By Huskies, 2-1

Katie Fage dishes out second assist in as many games

DEKALB, IL – The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team dropped a tough 2-1 match on Sunday, falling to the Northern Illinois Huskies in DeKalb, IL. The Bulls mounted a late first half rally thanks to Andrea Vescio’s (Niagara Falls, ON/A.N. Myer) goal in the 21st minute, but two earlier first half NIU goals and a scoreless second half prevented Buffalo from taking the victory.

Northern Illinois got on the scoreboard first at the 12:30 mark, as Lisa Maier beat UB goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) straight-on from just inside the box. The Huskies then extended their lead five minutes later on a Maddie Lehman header off of a Maier corner kick.

Buffalo mounted a comeback, however, as Vescio brought the Bulls to within one on her third goal of the season. Vescio’s goal was assisted by Katie Fage (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) and Lindsey Bailey (Burlington, ON/Assumption). The assist was Fage’s second in as many games, while it served as Bailey’s second of the season. Coron finished with four saves in the game.
