Sinclair Steals Show In 3-1 Women's Soccer WinBUFFALO, NY - Playing in her final regular season Mid-American Conference home game of her career, Paula Sinclair (Hamilton, Ontario/Barton Secondary) made it count as she scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season to lead the University at Buffalo women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Western Michigan. With the win, Buffalo remains on top of the Mid-American Conference standings with a 6-2 conference mark (7-5 overall). Western Michigan holds second place with a 4-2 record (6-5).
Sinclair, who was honored during a pre-game ceremony, opened the scoring nine minutes and 10 seconds into the game. However, the Bulls lead didn't last long as Western Michigan responded with a goal of its own in the 15th minute. The game remained tied until 11:33 until into the second half when junior Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick by sophomore Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). Olszewski took advantage of the opportunity, sliding the ball in the lower right hand corner of the net for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. With Western Michigan threatening to tie the game, Sinclair scored her second goal of game at the 83:15 mark to secure the victory. Buffalo outshot Western Michigan, 11-6, but the Broncos held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-3. The Bulls will begin a five-game road trip on Friday, October 12 when they travel to
MAC-rival Marshall for a 7 p.m. start. Buffalo will then travel to Ohio (Sunday, October 14), Central
Michigan (Friday, October 19), Eastern Michigan (Sunday, October 21) and Canisius (Wednesday, October
