Sinclair Steals Show In 3-1 Women's Soccer Win

Bulls Win Battle For Top Spot In MAC Standings

BUFFALO, NY - Playing in her final regular season Mid-American Conference home game of her career, Paula Sinclair (Hamilton, Ontario/Barton Secondary) made it count as she scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season to lead the University at Buffalo women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Western Michigan. With the win, Buffalo remains on top of the Mid-American Conference standings with a 6-2 conference mark (7-5 overall). Western Michigan holds second place with a 4-2 record (6-5).

Sinclair, who was honored during a pre-game ceremony, opened the scoring nine minutes and 10 seconds into the game. However, the Bulls lead didn't last long as Western Michigan responded with a goal of its own in the 15th minute.

The game remained tied until 11:33 until into the second half when junior Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick by sophomore Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster). Olszewski took advantage of the opportunity, sliding the ball in the lower right hand corner of the net for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

With Western Michigan threatening to tie the game, Sinclair scored her second goal of game at the 83:15 mark to secure the victory.

Buffalo outshot Western Michigan, 11-6, but the Broncos held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-3.

The Bulls will begin a five-game road trip on Friday, October 12 when they travel to MAC-rival Marshall for a 7 p.m. start. Buffalo will then travel to Ohio (Sunday, October 14), Central Michigan (Friday, October 19), Eastern Michigan (Sunday, October 21) and Canisius (Wednesday, October 24), before hosting Duquesne in its final regular season home game of the year on Wednesday, October 31.
