Buffalo sophomore Brooke McCalla (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) had a huge afternoon for the Bulls, notching two goals and adding an assist while freshman Caitlin Higgins (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) and junior Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean) rounded out the goal-scoring contingent for the UB.

Buffalo jumped out to a quick start, getting on the board in the eighth minute as Turner one-touched a Heidi Griffiths' (Clarence, NY/Clarence) pass to give the Bulls an early 1-0 lead. McCalla then struck for UB, notching her first goal of the game off a feed from Bulls’ sophomore Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, Ontario/A.N. Myer).

Higgins made it 3-0 at the 31:40 mark, as the freshman headed in her fourth goal of the season off a cross. Freshman Cheyra Bell (Warwick, Bermuda/Bermuda Institute) and McCalla were credited with the assist. Two minutes later, McCalla tallied her second goal of the game, as the sophomore sensation gathered a Kellie Vander Mallie (Penfield, NY/Penfield) pass and placed the ball inside the far side of the post to extend the Buffalo lead over the Broncos, 4-0.

Western Michigan finally responded offensively in the 38th minute, as Thalia Marsh snuck a low shot past Buffalo goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) to bring the score to 4-1. Thalia Marsh would strike again in the 64th minute, as she re-directed a Mandi Marsh shot from 10 yards out to tab her second goal of the game. The assist was also the second on the afternoon for Mandi Marsh.

Despite no second half scoring, the Bulls hung on to pick up their second Mid-American Conference victory of the season. Coron finished with seven saves for the Bulls, while Western Michigan’s Jenna Schrumph ended with seven saves of her own. The Broncos out shot the Bulls 20-17, but Buffalo owned the corner kick advantage, 7-4.

The Bulls will return to action on Sunday, October 8 when they take on Northern Illinois. Game time is scheduled for 11:30 am in DeKalb, IL.
