Women's Soccer Scores 2-1 Victory In DownpourBUFFALO, NY - Junior Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored with 4:32 left in regulation to give the University at Buffalo women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Northern Illinois in Mid-American Conference action on Friday night.
The win was the third in the last four games for the Bulls who improved their record to 5-2 in the MAC and 6-5 overall. Northern Illinois falls to 1-5 in the MAC and 1-8-1 overall this season. After a scoreless first half, UB sophomore Lauren West (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) notched her first goal of the season off a Paula Sinclair (Hamilton, Ontario/Barton Secondary) pass in front of the net in the 59th minute to open the scoring. Northern Illinois's Denise Papke then tied the game in the 76th minute before Pfeffer scored the goal that put Buffalo on top for good. Junior Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) stopped eight shots in goal for Buffalo while Katy Boll had a strong outing in the opposite net, also turning away eight shots. The Bulls will remain home for their final Mid-American Conference home game of the
season on Sunday, October 7, when they host Western Michigan at 1 p.m. The game will be battle for the
top spot in the MAC standings as Western Michigan comes into the game with the second most wins in
the conference (4-1) behind Buffalo (5-2). |
