Calvert Reaches MAC Plateau

Senior Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) joined the MAC's exclusive 300-save club with her fourth save Sunday against Central Michigan. Calvert joins Bowling Green's Erika Flanders (1999-2002, 463 saves) and Kent State's Lindsey Mitchell (1999-2002, 363 saves) as the only keepers in conference history to reach 300 career saves.

Calvert is the fourth UB keeper to reach the plateau, joining Nicole Pittaro (1992-95, 414 saves), Jaime Adams (1997-2000, 340 saves) and Rachelle Galipeau (1991-94, 334 saves).

She currently leads the MAC in saves (63) and saves per game (5.73) while maintaining a 1.59 goals against average.

Team Contributers

Coach Jean-A. Tassy has mixed the lineup many times already this year, as 15 of the 22 position players on the squad have started at least one game. No position player has started all 11 games, although senior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) and freshmen Jenessa Banwell (Toronto, Ontario/Birchmount Park) and Nikki Wilson (El Paso, TX/Franklin) have appeared in all 11 games and started 10. Calvert is the lone player on the squad who has started all 11 games.

Scoring Early

Nine of Buffalo's 10 goals this season have come in the first half. In the first stanza, Buffalo and its opponents have fought to a 9-9 draw through the first 11 games. However, in the second half, opponents have outscored Buffalo 9-1.

A True Homecoming

In their first 10 games, the Bulls have enjoyed the confines of UB Stadium only three times, so what better time to come home for a weekend than Homecoming.

On Friday, the women host MAC-leading Western Michigan (6-4-1 overall, 4-0 MAC) at 4:00 pm, who are coming off wins against Akron, 2-0, and Ohio, 2-1 last weekend. The Broncos are led by Stephanie Johnson and Thalia Playford, who each lead the offense with 10 points.

The women's game also sets up the men's team biggest challenge, as the 10-1 Bulls host fourth-ranked Akron at 7:00 pm on the turf in the second and final soccer doubleheader of the year.

Buffalo wraps up homecoming weekend by hosting Northern Illinois (4-5-2 overall, 2-2 MAC) on Sunday at 1:00 pm. The Huskies swept Akron and Ohio last weekend. The match will feature two of the league's top goaltenders, as Carrie Dvorak is third in the league in saves (57) and fifth in goals against average (1.23).
