Women's Soccer Drops MAC Contest to Kent State

Bulls lose conference game to Golden Flashes, 4-2

KENT, OH - Kimberly Dimitroff scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute and added an insurance goal a minute later as Kent State escaped with a 4-2 Mid-American Conference home win against the University at Buffalo's women's soccer team.

Dimitroff scored three goals. She opened the scoring on a breakaway in the 10th minute on a dish from Amy Kesller to put the Golden Flashes (7-2-3 overall, 3-2-1 MAC) ahead early. She added the game-winner in the 82nd minute with a goal in the right side of the net on assists from Nikki Litchenfeld and Jen Frey and an insurance goal a minute later on with a shot into the top half of the net off a scramble.

Frey assisted on the last goal, giving her two assists and she scored the other Kent State goal on an assist from Brittany Fracasso in the 11th minute to give Kent State a 2-0 lead.

Buffalo (3-9 overall, 2-4 MAC) fought back to tie the game early in the second half after the two early goals by Kent State. Senior Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy) scored on a penalty kick in the 54th minute. Dannecker leads the team with 10 points and is tied for the team lead with three goals.

Junior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) scored unassisted in a scramble at the top of the box in the 58th minute to tie the game. Crofut is also tied for the team lead with three goals.

The Bulls took 17 shots in the match but the Golden Flashes managed 19, 10 in the second half, forcing senior goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) to make five saves. Kent State's Alicia Fernandez stopped four shots to earn the win.

The Bulls will try to rebound as they travel to Western Michigan for a MAC contest on Friday at 3:00 pm in the final leg of a three-week road trip.
