Women's Soccer Weekly ReleaseClick here for a PDF of the weekly release Bulls Split Weekend Competition The University at Buffalo women’s soccer team picked up its first Mid-American Conference victory of the season Friday night, downing Eastern Michigan University, 3-2. The Bulls mounted a second half comeback sparked by sophomore Andrea Vescio’s (Niagara Falls, Ontario/A.N. Myer) two goal performance and a single goal from junior defender Amanda Corteau (St. Catherines, Ontario/ Denis Morris), her first of the season. The Bulls then fell to the Central Michigan Chippewas, 1-0 on Sunday to finish the weekend home stand with a 1-1 record.
Vescio Dubs Duo Of UB Goals In the win against the Eagles on Friday, the Bulls showcased offensive prowess as Andrea Vescio was able to settle a shot from sophomore Brooke McCalla (Pickering, Ontaio/Dunbarton) off the cross-bar to score Buffalo’s first goal from the top of the box. Vescio’s second goal came shortly into the second half as the sophomore composed a pass from junior Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean) and tied the game on a laser that soared past the EMU goalkeeper.
Points All Around Amanda Corteau picked up her first points of the season with her game-winning goal against Eastern Michigan on Friday. Corteau’s goal was scored off a corner kick booted by junior midfielder Katie Fage (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central). The assist served as Fage’s first point of the season.
Tassy Closing In On 100 Wins Buffalo head coach Jean-A. Tassy is one win away from marking his 100th win as head coach for the Bulls. In his 11th season with the Bulls, Tassy has collected a record of 99-84-19 and was named MAC Coach of the Year in 2000. Additionally, Tassy has coached 10 conference players of the week, 10 first-team all-conference players and five second-team all-conference players. Up Next The Bulls will play their next two games on the road, commencing with a 4:00 pm contest versus Western Michigan on Friday, October 6 followed by a 11:30 am game at Northern Illinois on Sunday, October 8.
The Broncos are currently 2-9-1 (1-3-0 MAC) having recently lost at Ohio, 2-0. The Huskies, meanwhile, stand at 2-7-2 (1-3-0 MAC) and just dropped a 1-0 contest against Akron on Sunday. |
