Bulls Suffer 2-0 Loss to Niagara

Bulls blanked for second straight game

LEWISTON, NY - The UB women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Niagara University in Lewiston, NY on Wednesday night. It marked the second straight game that the Bulls have been shut out.

Niagara got both of its goals from Rosie Luzak, the nation's second leading scorer. The junior forward now has 16 goals on the season. Luzak's first goal came at the 33:08 mark to give the Purple Eagles a 1-0 lead.

A highly-spirited and emotional second half saw two Bulls receive red cards, resulting in a two-man advantage for Niagara. The Purple Eagles were able to capitalize as Luzak scored her second goal of the night to make the score 2-0.

Niagara goalkeeper Kay Owings was spectacular in net. The freshman netminder made 12 saves and robbed the Bulls on several occasions to preserve the Niagara lead.

Despite being unable to tally a score on the board, the Bulls did manage to outshoot Niagara, 25-15. Emily Russell (Averill Park, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) led the way with eight shots. Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) started in goal for the Bulls and allowed two goals and made five saves.

The loss drops the Bulls to 2-5-4. Niagara remains undefeated on the season, improving to 8-0-1.
