Women's Soccer Drops Big Four Contest at NiagaraNIAGARA FALLS, NY - Brittany Bisnott scored twice and added an assist as Niagara University beat the University at Buffalo's women's soccer team, 3-1, in a matchup of local rivals. Buffalo (3-8 overall) finished its Big Four matches 1-2 this season, suffering a 4-0 loss to St. Bonaventure on Aug. 27 and beating Canisius, 4-0, on Sept. 10. Niagara (6-3 overall) finished 2-1 in the Big Four, losing to St. Bonaventure, 5-0, on Sept. 5 and beating Canisius, 3-2, on Sept. 28. Bisnott assisted on Brittany Younglove's opening goal into the left corner of the net 10:47 into the match and added her own score 11 minutes later with a shot to right corner. Melissa Himes assisted on the goal.
The Bulls closed the gap in the 88th minute, as freshman Heidi Griffiths (Clarence, NY/Clarence) scored her first career goal on an assist from senior Jenny Dannecker (East Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy). Dannecker leads the Bulls with four assists and eight points. Bisnott answered back three seconds before the game ended as Kelly Flaherty found Bisnott in the clear, and Bisnott beat the goalkeeper to the left. Buffalo outshot Niagara, 26-13, as junior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) led UB with eight shots and Dannecker added five. Niagara goalkeepers Melissa Himes and Katy Owings were forced to make eight saves to combine for the shutout. Senior Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) stopped three shots for the Bulls. The Bulls will try to rebound as it travels to Mid-American Conference foe Kent State on
Sunday for a 1:00 pm game. |
