Zips Upend Bulls, 1-0AKRON, OHIO – Facing its first Mid-American Conference opponent of the season, the University at Buffalo women’s soccer team was narrowly upended by Akron on Friday night, falling to the Zips 1-0.
The Zips, who entered the contest with a 5-1-2 record, scored the game’s only goal at the 34:24 mark, as Jordan Baranowski beat Buffalo goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) from 15 yards out.
Caitlin Higgins (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) lead the UB scoring attack, with three shots, including one on goal while Brooke McCalla (Pickering, ON/Dunbarton) finished with one shot on goal. Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean), Andrea Vescio (Niagara Falls, ON/A.N. Myer), Korine Johnson (Centennial, CO/Smoky Hill) and Kathleen Fage (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem) each added a shot for the Bulls. Coron finished with four saves for Buffalo. Buffalo will return to the field on Sunday, as the Bulls are set to take on Ohio University in Athens. Game time is slated for 1:00 pm. |
