Women's Soccer Falls To Miami In MAC Action

Brenna McJury Scores Lone Goal For Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY - Freshman Brenna McJury (Brockport, NY/Brockport) scored her second goal of the season in the 60th minute to pull Buffalo within a goal (2-1), but that was the closest the Bulls would get as they dropped a 4-1 decision to Miami on Friday night. The game, which was a rematch of last year's Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinal when Miami defeated the Bulls 2-1, was taped by Adelphia 13 and will be televised on Saturday, September 29, at 3:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. Buffalo falls to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the MAC while Miami improves to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.

After a scoreless 37 minutes to start the game, Miami scored two quick goals two minutes and 25 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Bulls, however, came out firing in the start of the second half. Buffalo cut the deficit by one goal when McJury tucked the ball just under the crossbar on a long shot well outside the box on a pass from sophomore Erin McGarry (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hill-Ballston Lake). The Bulls then had a chance to tie the game a few minutes later but senior Paula Sinclair's (Hamilton, Ontario/Barton Secondary) point blank shot rolled just wide of the right post.

Miami's Shaedyn Cousino dimmed Buffalo's hopes at the 78:46 mark when she hooked up with Danielle Berkemeier for the third RedHawks' goal. The Bulls showed a little life when Buffalo junior goalkeeper Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport) stopped a Miami penalty kick to give the Bulls a chance, but Miami eventually added a fourth goal with just :45 left for the final outcome.

Buffalo will host Ball State on Sunday, September 30 (12 noon) to close out the week. The game will be part of a UB soccer doubleheader. The Buffalo men's soccer team will take on Bowling Green in the nightcap at 2:30.
