Women's Soccer Loses to Miami (OH) in MAC TussleOXFORD, OH - Megan Shapiro scored with 12:35 remaining to break a scoreless tie and lead Miami (OH) University to a 2-0 win against the University at Buffalo women's soccer team in a Mid-American Conference game on Sunday afternoon. The loss was the second straight shutout for the Bulls (3-7 overall, 2-3 MAC) after the Bulls had won three of its previous four games. After the Red Hawks (5-3-1 overall, 3-0-1 MAC) had earned a corner, Laura Freel gained control and found Shapiro, who put the ball in the right side of the net. The Red Hawks scored another goal in the 82nd minute when Carrie Shields delivered a corner that was headed in the goal by Ashley Swinehart. Though Miami converted twice, Buffalo did hold a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks, maintaining the tempo for much of the game.
Buffalo took seven shots in the game, led by two each from freshman Kathleen Fage (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central) and junior Erica Mincher (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa). Senior goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) stopped seven shots for Buffalo, as Miami fired 12 her way. Miami keeper Megan Ortner stopped three shots to earn her second shutout of the season. The Bulls will try to rebound as it moves into the second part of their three-week long road
trip on Friday when they travel to local rival Niagara for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference contest. |
