BUFFALO, NY - Canisius defeated Buffalo, 2-1, in women's soccer on Friday night to snap an eight-game losing streak to the Bulls. It was Canisius' first win against UB since 1994.

Following a scoreless first half, Canisius' Cathleen Mulvey scored the game's first goal 22 seconds into the second stanza. Emily Russell (Averill Park, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) tied the contest in the 81st minute when she notched her team-best seventh goal of the season. However, the Golden Griffins struck back just 28 seconds later on an unassisted goal by Marissa Ponzi for the gamewinner.

Canisius goalkeeper Christine Moran was stellar between the pipes making 12 saves to earn the victory. Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) made one save and was charged with the loss.

With the loss, the Bulls drop to 5-4-1. It was the first victory of the season for Canisius who improve to 1-5-1.

Buffalo will next host Akron at RAC Field on Sunday at noon.
