BUFFALO, NY - Sophomore Ashley Turner (Olean, NY/Olean) scored her first career goal in the third minute, helping to lift the University at Buffalo women's soccer team to a 1-0 win against regionally-ranked Ball State University in Mid-American Conference action on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium.

After a corner from the left side by sophomore Katie Fage (Delmar, NY/Bethlehem Central), senior Natalia Crofut (East Aurora, NY/Iroquois) won the kick and got the ball to Turner, who lifted the ball into the right side of the net, giving Buffalo (3-5-1 overall, 1-1 MAC) the early lead.

The win is the Bulls' second against a regionally-ranked team this year, as they also beat Army, 3-2, on Aug. 28 during Army's BAE Systems Classic. Army was ranked 12th in the Northeast at the time. In nine games, Buffalo has faced five teams who have earned regional rankings this year.

Crofut needs one goal to become the first players since UB's all-time leading scorer Paula Listrani (1997-2000) to score at least 10 points in all four seasons.

UB was able to make the lead stand up against Ball State (8-2 overall, 1-1 MAC), ranked 13th in the Great Lakes region by SoccerBuzz.com, using aggressive midfield and defensive play to hold Ball State to 12 shots, although it did have seven corners.

Senior Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) stopped five shots, including two diving saves, to earn her first shutout of the year. She is seven saves away from becoming the third goaltender in MAC history to make 300 saves.

Alison Becker made four saves in the loss for the Cardinals.

Buffalo hits the road next weekend for away matches with Mid-American Conference foes Eastern Michigan (Friday at 3:00 pm) and Central Michigan (Sunday at 1:00 pm).
