Olszewski Honored As MAC Player Of The WeekBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo women's soccer player Nicole Olszewski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) earned Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors after leading the Bulls to wins over conference rivals Akron and Bowling Green. The Bulls finished 2-1 on the week and improved to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the MAC.
The sophomore began the week with a dominating seven-point performance in Tuesday's win over Akron (6-1). Olszewski was involved in five of the six Buffalo goals, scoring twice and adding three assists. The seven points were the sixth-highest single-game point total in Bulls' history and the most since 1994 when Lori Perillo had eight points on September 14. After a tough 2-1 loss to Toledo on Friday, Olszewski lit up the scoreboard again on Sunday with her sixth goal of the season 3:05 into overtime to lift the University at Buffalo women's soccer team to a 2-1 OT victory over Bowling Green. The goal gave Olszewski 17 points in the Bulls' first eight games, just two points shy of her total output of 19 points (six goals and seven assists) in her freshman campaign. The Western New York native, who has now scored in five of Buffalo's eight games this season, is already 14th on Buffalo's all-time points list with 34 points in 29 career games. Olszewski and the Bulls have a big week ahead of them as they host Miami (OH) on Friday,
September 28 (7 p.m.) followed by a visit by Ball State on Sunday, September 30 (12 noon). Miami defeated the Bulls,
2-0, in the MAC semifinals last year while Ball State is undefeated through the first seven games of the season. |
