Women's Soccer Defeats Marshall

Bulls Beat Herd 2-0 Behind Listrani

BUFFALO, NY — After losing their second straight game Friday night, the Bulls bounced back and used the foot of Paula Listrani (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) to defeat Marshall 2-0 and improve to 2-1 in the MAC.

The first half was a stuggle for the Bulls as Marshall controlled the action early in the game but could not score. UB goalkeeper Jaime Adams (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) made five or her eight saves on the game in the first half to hold of the Thundering Herd. UB finally started to crack through the Marshall defense late in the half. UB had three consecutive shots off a corner kick, but each shot was deflected away by the Marshall defense. A few minutes later, Listrani dished the ball off to Andrea Sullivan (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) who snuck the ball past Marshall goalkeeper Kayla Johnson for her first goal of the year at the 37:29 mark and a 1-0 Bulls' lead going into halftime.

The Bulls controlled the pace much of the second half, recordering numerous shots and keeping the pressure on the Marshall defense. Late in the second half, Listrani scored her seventh goal of the season off a pass from Elizabeth Pfeffer (Liverpool, NY/Cicero Syracuse North) at the 87:01 mark to give UB the 2-0 win.

With her goal and assist, Listrani moved closer to the UB career records in every category. She is currently fourth all-time in goals scored with 39 on her career, fourth in assists with 16 and third all-time in career points with 94.

The win improves UB to 6-4-0 on the season and 2-1 in the Mid-American Conference and Marshall falls to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in the MAC. UB will be home again next weekend when they host Central Michigan on September 29, at 7 pm, and Eastern Michigan on October 1, at 1 pm. The Central Michigan game will be broadcast for tape delay by Adelphia Cable.
