Bulls Blank Lady Bison, 2-0

Amy Coron notches first shutout of the season

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Playing in its last non-conference game of the season, the University at Buffalo women?s soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over the Howard Lady Bison on Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

Buffalo was led by Heidi Griffiths (Clarence, NY/Clarence), who scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season and Caitlin Higgins (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor), who scored her first goal of the season. Goalkeeper Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) inked her first shutout of the season.

The Bulls got out to a quick start, getting on the scoreboard as Griffiths took the ball down the middle and scored unassisted in the 14th minute of the match. Higgins then extended Buffalo’s lead at the 33:36 mark when she collected a pass from Brooke McCalla (Pickering, ON/Dunbarton) and fired a shot into the right side of the net. The assist was McCalla’s third of the season.

The Bulls outshot the Lady Bison 16-8 and also held the advantage in corner kicks, 7-3. Coron finished the game with four saves, while the Bulls forced Howard’s Jessamyn Perkins to make seven saves.

UB will commence Mid-American Conference action on the road, beginning Friday, as the Bulls travel to Akron to take on the Zips at 7:30 pm. Buffalo will then face Ohio on Sunday at 1 pm in Athens.
