BUFFALO, NY - Miami (OH) University only got seven chances to take a shot on net against the University at Buffalo women's soccer team in the Mid-American Conference opener on Friday night at UB Stadium, but Miami was able to put two balls in the back of the net to seal a 2-0 win over Buffalo.

Buffalo (2-5-1 overall, 0-1 MAC) outshot Miami, 8-7, and also held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks, but could muster only three shots on goal. Six of Miami's shots were directed at the net, although Miami took only one shot in the second half and none in the last 40 minutes.

Lindsay Dunmead put the RedHawks (3-3 overall, 1-0 MAC) up in the 15th minute, as she won a ball and found herself open at the top of the goal box. She delivered a perfect strike to the upper center of the net, just out of the reach of a jumping goalkeeper.

In the 27th minute, Miami got an insurance goal from Kathleen Vestica, who received a cross from Carrie Shields that got past the goalkeeper, allowing Vestica to tap the ball into the left side of the net.

Buffalo was aided in the game by the return of sophomore Courtney MacVie (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East), who earned MAC All-Freshmen team honors in 2004. The defender missed the first seven games of the season due to injury, but was in the starting lineup Friday, playing 50 minutes.

Senior Anna-Lesa Calvert (Dallas, TX/Bryan Adams) stopped four shots in the loss for the Bulls. Miami keepers Leigh Terry and Shannon Chew combined on the shutout, making three stops as each played a half.

Buffalo will look to get back on the winning track on Sunday at 12:00 pm as it faces Ball State, ranked 13th in the Great Lakes Region by SoccerBuzz.com, the fourth currently ranked opponent Buffalo has faced this year.
