Women's Soccer Drops First MAC Game

Ohio Holds of Second Half Attack by UB

BUFFALO, NY — The University at Buffalo women's soccer team lost their first Mid-American Conference game of the season, and the second-straight game overall after a 2-1 loss to Ohio Friday night.

The first half saw both teams battle for possesion early on, as neither team could get many shots off. Late in the first half, the Bulls broke free and had the ball inside the box. A shot by the Bulls was deflected out by an Ohio defender, but UB's Darrah Graziano (Greece, NY/Greece-Athena) was there to collect the ball and put it past the Bobcats keeper, giving Buffalo a 1-0 lead at the 35:50 mark. The Bobcats would not fold however, and quickly responded by going on the attack. Just before the end of the half, Ohio would tie the score at the 42:04 mark on a goal by Carrie Kistner. Kistner scored off a deflected ball from a UB defender and snuck a shot past Buffalo goalie Emily Cox (Fairport, NY/Fairport), who recroded five saves in the game.

The second half saw Ohio dominate early on as the Bobcats controlled the ball and the midfield area. OU would take the lead in the 57th minute as Lindsay Vondrell took a pass from Meghan McCoy and scored from 15 yards out to put Ohio up 2-1. The Bulls would try to attack later in the half and had many close opportunties to tie fall short. The closest chance came on a shot by Emily Russell (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) that deflected off the left cross bar with roughly 15 mintues remaining.

The Bulls fall to 5-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Mid-American Conference while Ohio improves to 4-4-0 overall and a perfect 2-0-0 in the MAC. UB will next play Marshall at home on Sunday, September 24, at 1 pm.
